I'm just not sure how I feel about a polymer lower, regardless for those looking for one looks like its still in stock.

There was a few youtube videos demoing the strength of these poly lower and they're pretty good. Almost the same or even better than the aluminum lower.

Remember back in the day when poly magazines first came out and everyone was skeptical?

I haven't seen those videos but I have no doubt that it is probably just my fear of newness and change and nothing more.

those are for new frontier armory.. im not sure ATI's are as durable

HK has been using poly lowers for over 4 decades.

There also are a bunch of pictures showing where they fail at the weakest point - the thin section just ahead of the castle nut/stock and various other failures, e.g.,

I'd rather have metal myself but people have been using them for a long time now, most without any significant issues. You can find various similar failures for metal as well.

I think people trying to print their own on 3d printers are running in to this problem a lot. Friend-of-a-friend said he got 4 pulls on his charging handle before it cracked just like in the picture you linked. If I had access to a 3d printer I'd tinker with the CADs myself to see what would be good methods of printing reinforcement. Not anywhere near enough clearance on the inside, so it will have to be on the outside. I'm wondering if people could be able to print a version with spare room on the inside and then print a metal drop-in reinforcement bracket.

I just put together one of the NFAs. VERY tight fit. Whether that's a pro or con is a matter of preference. Especially annoying is the safety, which is very tight. Biggest problem is the mag catch. Had to shave a bit out of the slot for it to move freely. Rumor has it NFA builds ATI's also, but to their spec.

Note that this is polymer, not aluminum.

Wasn't talking about the printed ones but likely so. That's just an inherently weak area. They've made various polymer/composite lowers going back 30+ years and they've cracked there for about as long (as metal do too in some cases). I kind of half recall somebody having some type of steel reinforcement that was incorporated in some way in one of the composites but don't remember the specifics.
