I've rented a zillion cars in Orlando. I used to work at a job which required almost 100% travel, so I had enough miles and points built up that owning a car to let it rot in the sun wasn't practical.
My favorite deal is to tell people to look at the Costco website, and specifically at Alamo. They usually give pretty good deals. If you're looking for an exceedingly cheap car, try Simply Wheelz. It's run by Hertz, and it's essentially a stripped down version of Hertz, with slightly older or higher mileage cars than a mainstream Hertz car, but you won't notice the difference, I promise. I got a car there on short notice once for like $98 a week for a full size including everything.
Also, stay away from some of the no-name outfits there. Some of them are less than scrupulous, and have crummy old cars. Affordable, Best rate, Fox are shabby, though L&M isn't too terribly bad. However they DON'T HAVE national coverage so you may be stuck somewhere if you break down. Paying for a cab from the airport to a car place kind of defeats the purpose of getting a cheap ride in the first place.
I second the recommendation of Costco. They have had the cheapest prices every single time for me in the past two years. I also check the website daily so I can cancel and rebook if the rates decrease. Yes, you a Costco membership is required.
I've always had good luck on Expedia.ca. Good thing is that car rentals in orlando are urlhasbeenblocked! Oh, find out if you can port your personal vehicle insurance to your rental car. I did that and I'm from BC. Saved about $30 in daily insurance. Plus said no to GPS and all the other extras they try to get you to buy.
Car rental rates in Orlando (MCO) are really high this year.
One of the best deals to be found MAY be Dollar car rentals. Put in your dates, etc. and then the selection page will pop-up. If you are lucky -- in the middle of the page "city specials" will be there, follow that link and you may get a GREAT price -- I think Thrifty also has the same thing.
The only other option I would suggest is travelocity. On flyertalk, the Autoslash guy is constantly telling people that travelocity has some of the best car rental deals.
I'm Canadian and will be in Orlando May 14th. My friend will be picking me up from the airport, so I don't need to get one there, but would like one for the next day. Are there any cheap deals?
If you just rent for a couple of days, I suggest you to rent from Hertz MCO. At Orlando airport they have some really nice car and you can book it on its website. Cars available at Hertz MCO includes Mecedes-Benz C63AMG, E63AMG, S550; BMW 650i, M5; Porsche 911, Cayenne, Boxster, Panamera. And their price is suprisingly reasonable if you negotiate over the counter (yes just like buying cars, you can also negotiate when renting a car).
