Stopped by OD and checked out the laptop, seemed OK. Unfortunately, moments before I was to be rung up it was decided that all the laptops had been put on hold by customers calling ahead, so no laptop for me.
Funny thing on the laptop, it has a dedicated button by the power button, apparently for the purpose of doing factory restores. Kind of disconcerting that the laptop should have a dedicated button just for factory restores, and placed right next to the power button. |

I managed to score the laptop but they only had the display unit so i got that. They did have the box, battery & manual (still in the plastic) and charger. I noticed the display unit didn't have the win8 cdkey attached to the laptop. How would I get that. I know there are software tools to get key from OS but if I sell this down the road or reinstall OS, I would need the key.
would exchanging it with another store be a potential solution? |

Sure do feel for all you guys having problems. Luckily my Indiana store is pretty good about actually wanting to HELP the customer be happy!

Nope, i was told it was a fcc thing with the antenna by lenovo support. They said I could buy a new card (and loose my grandfathered plan by I digress) from lenovo for 200 bucks. I paid 12 bucks for the one I already have. For me, back to the store it went.
Funny isn't it? they will "hold" the pc for a "online" someone with no deposit and rip it from the hands of a paying customer. I see it as a big fail. you want to "hold" it for pickup. pay for it. Last edited by merkurfan; 02-21-2013 at 11:14 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

My story today:
Ask the wife to pick up another laptop for a co-worker since it was on her back from shopping. I had checked just before she went and the system showed two in stock(one on display and one NIB). She calls me and said that they told her that they didn't have any in stock. I checked the online inventory and it still showed that two was in stock. I called and ask to see if they had Item # 983842 in stock then got put on hold. The female employee comes back and tells me that they're out of those. I requested to see if they have a display model on the floor cause I just check the online inventory and it showed 2 avaiable. She puts me on hold and then the manager came into play. He tells me this: "Was that your wife that came in earlier. I'm sorry that your wife was mistakenly misinformed but we do have one available for purchase but if you're going to use the Staples $75 coupon then it has to have a different bar code. We cannot honor that coupon if it has the same bar code." The information I got from this call was: 1. They lied to my wife 2. They lied to me 3. The manager knew well that all the coupons would have the same bar code that's why he had used that excuse 4. Most likely someone in the store is trying to hold onto that laptop and purchase it later with the coupon. I chated online with Kaden who was very professional and offered to help me. Kaden stated that he/she will email me a OD $75 computer/laptop coupon without any restrictions and will send a mandatory request for the store to reserved the laptop in my name. I should be getting the OD $75 coupon by email in a couple of hours and call to verify that the reserved laptop is ready for pickup.

![]() Once i got back to work, i did an online chat and supposedly someone's gonna contact me to rectify the situation, but we'll see. I may just check another store after work, and then return this one later. |

I just came back from OD down the street from my work. Since it was only 2 miles away - I thought I'd give it a try but I got shut down fast. The guy already had to turn down a few people before me and said they will not honor because Staples do not have the G580 in stock and they stand firm on their policy. He also refuted the discount by saying that by taking the -140 discount over the -75 discount from Staples I am getting the better deal. Spoke to another lady who said that there was one guy who got away with it before they "caught on". Looks like the early birds were getting the deal and now that they are catching on, they are quick with the refusal.
