Deal Details

Someone posted about this computer before, but I don't know if they realize you can use the new $75 Staples coupon to knock the price down to $265 + tax....I thought I had better alert some people who want to get a great deal on this computer. Here's the link to the computer at Office Depot.....I just picked one up at my local OD here in Nashville

here's a link to the coupon.

Maybe no experience with that exact situation, but plenty of people reporting that OD took the coupon with no problem, and plenty of people saying that OD refused to accept the Staples $75 coupon (some even producing memo that specifically said to NOT take the coupon). I guess it's a YMMV deal.
I had a chat with OD live chat and asked, they said the store would honor it. So, I'm going to print my transcript and hopefully get the manager that was so apologetic when they gave away my 2 HP touchpads without checking the persons ID. After that, I figure they owe me this one!

No, you'll have to go back to find my original post.

I was able to get Staples to PM the laptop to $430.....that's OD's price. Their website actually shows the $380 price, but clearly shows the checkout price to be $430. Their mobile site (as pulled up on my phone) showed the $430 price and no mention of the rebate. BUT, the Staples manager was aware of the rebate and went back to his office to verify the actual sales price on the OD website.....he actually printed it out and told the cashier to put in the register.

The previous user that I was replying to said that Staples would not accept the coupon if they PM'd to OD, but said that Staples had offered to PM to the $380 price. So, if that is really the laptop they are interested in, getting the PM to $380 and still being able to get the rebate is the next best thing to getting the PM to $430 and being able to use the $75 coupon and still getting the rebate. It ends up being $25 more, but still better than paying full price.
Ok now I see the rebate on OD's site so doing a PM at $430 should be no issue at Staples since both have $50 rebate anyways.

The part that would be tricky is once the PM done is being able to get that $75 coupon applied. Now if the manager hangs around the register it will be an issue. If not your chances improve greatly since if you give rewards and the $75 coupon together it won't raise that much red flags. But if the manager is ringing you up the no way.

How did you proceed with checkout? Did you get a rep to get you the laptop first, bring to register to ring up and then you asked the cashier if they can PM OD's price....at that time the manager was called and he processed it and then you waited til he left before showing the $75 coupon?

If latest technology is not matter, why don't make it cheaper with dual core:

Lenovo G580 Dual core $285 - 75 = $210 + tax (one available issaquah, WA).
Is this at Staples or OD? Any SKU#?

How are you getting it to $210? The price is $339 so minus the coupon it's $264

I tested my G580 just now, it's good, sound was okay. it's pretty cool one for 265+tax. I recommend it to anyone.

During thanksgiving Dell had 'Dell Inspiron 14z 14.1" Laptop w/ Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD' for 299.99 + tax for few mins on their site; and all of us were trying to grab it; only few lucky guys were get it for that price; this is way better...

This is in-store deal, last time I was there one left for dual core model ( more specific, right at the corner). They took Staple coupon without any problem, but as the thread indicates, different rep would do differently.

Good Luck!

They shot me down in a hurry at my local store. They said an email went around to neighboring stores to not accept the matching coupon for this special. Awful

I waited about 10 minutes before somebody could help me - other sales guy had just gotten a laptop for a customer and went to ring him up. My kid walked around touching all the computers and tablets until he found one with Mah Jongg that he could play.

Another sales guy walked by and asked if I needed help. Asked if he had the Toshiba and if so I would like to see it. Took him a few more minutes to get it from the back - I guess they are locked up. I asked if the price was still $550 and he agreed. I then asked if they could match the price to Office Depot and showed him the price on my phone. Told him I'd rather spend my money at Staples than Office Depot. He double-checked with the cashier that they do indeed PM to OD. She asked the amount and said she would need a manager to do anything over $10-20.

Sales guy told me about the service plan - apparently now it is "risk-free." If you don't ever need to use it, just let them know at the end and they will give you a Staples Cash Card for the full amount of the plan. That's $115 for the lowest and $210 with accidental. Told him I don't worry about those things, but he again told me about getting the full price if I don't need to use it. The sales guy wasn't being pushy or anything. I've never had any problems with any laptops, but this was for the wife, and she has a way of screwing things up, so I figured I'd buy it. I was starting to get a headache and my kid was getting bored. Plus I figured I have a few days to go back and return the plan (at least I think....if not I'll be setting a calendar reminder to apply for my refund in 2 years!).

They called the manager out front and he asked for the proof of OD price. I showed him my phone, then he said he needed to print it out and put in the cash register, so he disappeared to the back and come out with the OD website page printed.

He keyed in the discount and walked away. Cashier rang everything up and gave me the total. I reached for my wallet and said "oh, and I have these" and handed her my rewards and the coupon. She scanned them all with no problems and gave me my new total.

Cashier and sales guy both commented on the good deal, and then said "oh, and you even get a rebate.....wow, that makes it even cheaper for you. That's a good deal." I said "Cool, that's pretty slick." My son did his horrible Popeye impression "A guy guy guy guy guy." (told you it was horrible!) We all giggled. I told him he was crazy, punched him in the stomach (lovingly, not violently) and we left.

Really, shouldn't be any problem using the coupon with a price match. Staples advertises that they will match the price on identical items. Coupon doesn't mention anything about excluding price matched items. I figured if they gave me a hard time I'd pull the "Okay, well Office Depot will accept the coupon and I guess they'll get my money tonight."

Yikes....that's a "cool story, bro" waiting to happen. Wink

Rejected last night. Spoke with online chat and they confirmed the store should have accepted it. Called the store back and the manager says she already said no (she checked with other managers around the area), and the only person that can give it an Ok is her boss (who is on vacation). Anyways, her boss' assistant will call me tomorrow.

Hopefully this works. My laptop died on my recently. =)
