Someone posted about this computer before, but I don't know if they realize you can use the new $75 Staples coupon to knock the price down to $265 + tax....I thought I had better alert some people who want to get a great deal on this computer. Here's the link to the computer at Office Depot.....I just picked one up at my local OD here in Nashville

here's a link to the coupon.

In my opinion and based on my past experience I would say a big NO. I've had a couple of HPs/Compaqs and know others that had one and most of the HP laptops have terrible overheating issues within or after a year of use. It just seem like they were design to FAIL after the warranty expires.

My eMachine, Dell(s), Google Chrome, and Fujitsu laptops don't have this problem.

Do you think this HP from Staples is worth the extra $60?

17.3" vs 15.6"

6GB vs 4GB (both max at 8GB)

750GB vs 500GB

HP has less battery life by approx 75 minutes.

HP has $50 rebate to deal with.

I bought online when it went live. Got it today, GF likes it. Any chance I can take my receipt to my local OD and have them credit my card? Or call customer service to have them price adjust?

This is a very specific question, but can someone tell me if this is better than the HP Pavilion dv6z-6100 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC [hp.com]? That's the computer my brother has and it's dying on him. He wants a new budget laptop, but wants it to be at least better than his current one.

Would it be wise to call Office Depot before heading there to see if they will accept the competitor's coupon? Or this is one of those things you don't call them about because hush hush?

Definitely going to have to go back to the store and see if they'll price adjust. It was a good deal at $340...$265 would be insane.

Those guys took a few minutes to look up the coupon and did some research on it. My suggestion is if there is a OD around you, just walk into the store and give them the coupon. If not, it is better for you to call them first. I think it is a YMMV coupon.

Was able to have a local OD PM the coupon. $280 OTD. Was going to get two but he tried ringing them up at the same time and couldn't key in the manual discount. He said he would do them as individual sales but he can't verify the code isn't a unique one or not (I made my case to no avail). He said I could just come back for number two tomorrow.

No this computer is not as powerful as the one you posted. That HP has a Llano based Fusion APU which is a true quad core machine and can be overclocked like crazy. The paired Radeon HD6520G graphics is vastly superior too, especially since the i3 version of Intel HD4000 doesn't have turbo boost. On top of that the HP has Bluray player and goodies such as fingerprint reader.

But HP is more expansive than this one. This one is the best laptop below $300 so far.

Isn't the i3 a much better CPU?

I believe the CPU on the Lenovo is significantly faster, but that's about the only thing. Imo, it isn't worth an upgrade
