Light Gaming rig
I have a 650W power supply. I have a Hard drive, and I have a monitor. I'm wondering what I should get for a case and motherboard/cpu. I'm thinking I'm going to build a gaming rig for my son since that is his thing. Any ideas? I'm trying to be cheapt btw and he doesn't play crysis. He plays Garry's Mod a lot and Call of Duty

Case is a personal choice, but with budget builds you're pretty much limited to an ATX motherboard since micro-ATX and mini-ITX boards are generally more expensive.
The NZXT Source 210 is a good budget gaming-oriented case with good cable management for ~$40. After deciding on an ATX case: CPU: Intel Core i3 3220 ~$120 MB: ASRock B75 PRO3 ~$75 RAM: Any 2x2GB 1.5V modules from G.Skill, Kingston, Corsair, or Crucial. ~$25 GPU: Get a used last gen model; either a HD6850 or a GTX 560Ti. ~$130 OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 ~$90 If you have a PC running Windows and a 4+ GB USB drive you can download a Windows 7 ISO (legally) and create a bootable USB drive to install. You just need the serial number that comes with the disk. Probably easier to just buy a DVD drive for $20 though. http://pcpartpicker.com is your friend. |
