Check out sigma's new 35mm f/1.4 (around $800-900). Maybe not as wide as you'd like for landscape, but I've shot many a landscape using the 35mm and 50mm focal lengths, and it certainly gets the job done (and panoramas are an option more often than not if you need a wider angle), and the 35/50mm focal lengths are better suited to social events than a 28mm or 24mm. Other recommendations - if you can put up with no autofocus, look at the rokinon/samyung/bower 35mm f/1.4 (about $375) - great optically, especially for the price, but manual focus/aperture is less ideal for social events. The 24mm f/1.4L II ($1500) is also a nice lens, great for landscape but rather wide if it's the only focal length you are using. For zooms, check out the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 with image stalization (about $1200) - better optically than Canon's 24-70 f/2.8 (the original, not the II) and IS is useful - although I personally rather have a wider aperture than zoom when taking photos indoors. One last option - the 40mm f/2.8 STM pancake lens - so small, very cheap ($150), great optics - pretty much the perfect backup lens.

So is there any confirmation on the Rebel series refurbs being discounted as well?

Usually they are. Kits might not, but we shall see in couple of days.

After watching some comparison video on youtube im now looking on saving more and get the 6D kit or 6D body.

Unless you need sophisticated AF system & weather sealing with mag alloy body, 6D is a better choice with WiFi and GPS.

5D Mark III is better than 6D in every possible way sans high ISO performance. But it's only like say 1/2 stops in RAW and maybe like 1 stop in JPEG at ISO >6400.

My son got the t4i for Christmas for the sole purpose of making movies. I've been trying to research a good lens for this purpose but not knowing much about photography, it is very overwhelming and confusing. You all seem to know your stuff....any suggestions or recommendations? Thank you!
