EBAY Feedback etiquette

Assuming buyer pays instantly who do you think should leave feedback first? The buyer or the seller?

Seller should always leave feedback first. Once the item is paid for the buyer's part of the transaction is complete so the seller should be able to leave feedback at that point. The buyer doesn't have enough information to leave feedback until the item is received.

I agree. But the last 6 purchases I've made, the seller doesn't give feedback until I've left it first.

I've actually stopped leaving feedback if there isn't a problem.

i've sold over 900 items but only have a 401 feedback.... i don't even bother leaving feedbacks unless i'm blown away by their customer service, duration of shipping--it arrived faster than anticipated, poor packaging.

This bugs the crap out of me too. In the old days sellers would wait so they could ward off the feedback extortionists, but now that only positive feedback can be left for buyers it really makes no sense waiting.

I've stopped leaving feedback for sellers who haven't left feedback for me first unless I notice they have an auto feedback system. I don't need their +1 that badly (and they clearly don't care enough about mine).

I typically wait about a week after the buyer receives the item to leave feedback. While I can't leave negative feedback I'd hate to leave positive feedback and then have the buyer try to fark me over by claiming the item wasn't as described or they never actually received it.

bull. if you sell lots, you'll quickly find out that buyers get a-hole-ish and end up resorting to feedback extortion

I just stated the way it should be, not that in many cases the seller may be a paranoid nut job.

I typically won't leave feedback at all if the seller doesn't give feedback soon after the transaction is over. I may change that and start leaving sarcastic comments as feedback after a few weeks if the seller doesn't give feedback.

How can a buyer leave feedback if he or she hasn't received the item yet?

Sellers half of the transaction is done when the item is paid for, so they have no valid reason to wait to leave feedback. Obviously the buyer can't leave feedback until after the item is received. This game that some asshole sellers play is bullshit. I have stopped leaving feedback for sellers first.

I leave positive feedback after the buyer pays (sometimes there's a one or two day delay).

Honestly, I don't think anyone really cares about feedback anymore. There's a website to search for negative feedback..http://www.toolhaus.org/ .. If I am making a big purchase, I will search the seller to read his neg feeback.. most big sellers have some negative feedback, I just look for a pattern such as 5 people saying "sent broke item, refused refund". Most negative feedback seems to be from buyers being aholes.

As a seller, I usually only sell stuff I don't care about anymore, like DVDs I am done with. If a buyer tries to extort/scam or whatever, I really don't care, I am not out much money.

It seems like most buyers do not leave feedback anymore. That kind of sucks honestly. Since buyer feedback is worthless, it's good courtesy to leave feedback to a seller if your item arrived ok.

I agree that it is good courtesy to leave feedback as a buyer. But it is also good courtesy to leave feedback as a sleer if the buyer completed his side of the transaction in a timely manner. Buyers side of the transaction obviously ends before the itme is received, yet many sellers dont leave feedback until after the buyer leaves feedback for whatever reason. I for one do not play that game, and refuse to leave feedback for a seller until after they leave feedback for me, as they should.
