And I'll maintain the moment you want to take advantage of an image that is 1920 x 1080, you want a screen that does it. Slide shows, BluRay, TV as a monitor --- it goes on. Once you want to do that, 720p doesn't cut it (for people that notice). My dad still stretches 800x600 images on his WXGA display. It looks horrible. But he doesn't care. He just cares how big the screen is. For me, it drives me absolutely batty. Some people see my 1080p projector images and say they look no better than my SVGA projector (both projecting to the same size screen). Display pixel resolution -- 1080i has a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080 (alternate 1920 x 540 images) -- when that image is sent to a 720p TV, the image is interpolated. You lose pixel resolution. At the same time, a 720p image going to a 1080p image CAN look worse, if you are too close to the TV. You're better with 1080p because it's more versatile. Two stores near me showed limited availability.
1 store was sold out, but had just recently sold out at the OP price. The other store has one in stock but it was $199 - dude mentioned that the 'computer decides' when things go on clearance, so it could be soon, or never. Question 2- Does anyone know if Target will price match out to a ceratin date? if I purchased this and then it went on clearance next week? Has anyone considered or done this? It definitely seems like this item is falling into the "might clearance soon" category...however who knows how the computer calculates when to make the price cut. Buy Now, Think Later.

I decided to try my Target - showed LIMITED STOCK. They had one -- and it was an ONLINE order return to the store. They had taken a pen and marked out the UPC, and put on one those Target Clearance tags (which they usually don't mark down much). It was $209.99. I was able to kinda rub off the ink on the UPC enough to price check it -- $199.99. LMAO.

Checked target in Tracy, ca today....it's 199 there. I think the targets in California (@ least in my area) are slower to put things on clearance....on two previous threads about a hard drive and a big wheel @ target did go on clearance @ the price mentioned on the threads but it took about a week after it was posted on SD

If you are sending a 1080P source to a 720P screen, it all depends on size of the screen versus distance. As was pointed out, on a 26" screen, once you are past 2.5 ft or so, you won't notice the difference. What you described with your dad's situation is where the resolutions aren't scaling properly and the image becomes distorted. Basically, you can simulate this even on a 1080P screen by playing a 4x3 movie and having the TV stretch it instead of zooming to fill the screen and cropping part of the picture. IF you want to use the TV as a computer monitor, then sure, you might be better off with a 1080P screen as it sometimes gets a little wonky trying to match resolutions. I have a mix of both. I have a 1080P BenQ projector shooting a 125" screen, a Panny 65" 1080P plasma in my living room, a 55" Panny 1080P in my bedroom and a 46" Panny 720P in my den. I watch the same source material, 1080P MKVs coming off my media server, on all of them via either HTPC or WD TV Live boxes and they ALL look just fine, even my 720P set. Then again, I usually sit about 8 feet away from that TV when watching it, that's just the way the room is set up. |

Target's policy is that they don't price match clearance prices. That said, it depends on the person working at the customer service desk. |

Bought one for 199.99 at the AZ Chandler Frye location. Returned/re-bought for $89 at the 202/gilbert rd. super target with no issues. The customer service associate also said to ask a store that had them on clearance for a rain check and take the rain check to a store that has stock and they will sell it to you at the reduced price. ymmv
