[Target] Philips 26" LED TV Wifi 26PFL4907 for $89.95 YMMV

Anybody actually try this TV as a monitor? I bought a Philips/Magnavox 26" HDTV awhile back when they had a clearance on their website and the TV's EDID information was completely wrong - kept reporting 1920x1080 but the panel only supported 1360x768 - it would display but was really bad looking. Could not for the life of me get an Nvidia card to behave properly at 1360x768 - just looked horrible. The refresh rate was weird too. Ended up getting an ATI Radeon card and it had better options for setting custom resolutions/refresh (only worked at 59hz or something otherwise severe quality issues). For that reason alone I promised myself to never buy another Philips TV.

This was for a 26" LCD with a built in DVD player. That unit was several years old too.. and wouldn't work well with a PS3.

How about posting a receipt shot? A little ammo to waive in the manager's face and demand a price match?

Our Samsung 26" is LCD -- the HDMI port, as I have read, is not intended for use with PC -- something to do with interlacing. It has a VGA port and it displays much more clearly than HDMI. HDMI from any computer I've tried will not show up true 1:1. It usually cuts off the edges. I can use NVidias adjustment tools to center the image, but then it's even worst interpolation. I was very disappointed when I found this out, but 1080p has become so affordable that the Samsung is no longer being used anyway. I was lucky enough to get one of the 37" TCL's that went for sale $129.99 after rebate from Tiger Direct, so the 32" Vizio (1080p) got promoted to upstairs and that TV is perfect with the PC.

32" is about the ceiling for normal sized rooms 720 p. Telling the difference in resolution is mostly a function of size and distance. If you are 3 feet away from a 51" and can't see the difference you are different than a large portion of people. That doesn't make you a bad person But I do feel sorry for you. At the same time, it will save you a TON of money if you don't care.

Considering that all of Dish's live channels are in either 1080i or 720p there are three possible explanations for your statement.

A) You watch an insane amount of 1080p VOD content and your bill is in the $1000's
B) The reason the picture is "drastically worse" on the 26" is more of a result of the quality/calibration of the 26" TV

or

C) You have bought into media marketing regarding TV specs and have conditioned yourself to thinking that your 720p's picture is worse just because. Don't feel bad. I do the same thing. I have an Emerson 40" LCD TV in my spare bedroom that I can't stand watching just because the quality of the housing is cheap and it has the name "Emerson" on the front. In reality the picture is pretty good and I'm an electronics snob.

He did, check the OP. Won't work though, they will claim it's clearance even though it's not technically indicated on the receipt. I'm still trying to confirm if it's possible to buy at $199 then return/rebuy at a location that has them as $89.

720p is not an issue. Why does everyone jump on this.
