I also dislike this pencil, but that's another story. It's not bad, it's just that it's over priced at regular price. $3.48, okay, but it has the durability of a $2 pencil. You're paying for the mechanism that supposedly keeps you from having to click the button (was that a problem that needed solving?)

On top of that it only somewhat helps. Cursive it doesn't come out fast enough (EDIT: frequently enough), small print math it comes out too fast (EDIT: too often). It works okay on regular writing, but I have to ask, why is it not designed like a writing pencil with comfort and long session writing in mind? It's designed basically like a drafting pencil like most cheap pencils but I can't imagine anyone using it for this purpose. The problem is that the rotation of the lead makes it very scratchy, which results in jumping if you hold it lightly. Reason is the sharp edge is constantly turned towards the paper (EDIT: with each lift), which is nice for line width, but bad for line drawing.

On top of that it uses Uni lead, which I am not a fan of as it is scratchy and only makes the pencil feel worse on paper.

Again, not a bad pencil for $3.88 (I guess, these are a better deal at $2.88 for two http://www.amazon.com/Zebra-M-301..._sbs_op_13)

NOTE: I get the appeal of not having to advance the lead and getting a consistent line. My issue is that it addresses a problem that already had a solution, but creates a pencil with no control, and that's a bigger problem for me.
Again, still a cool pencil. Probably fine for writing school papers or whatever

That's not what it does. You are thinking of some other automatic pencil.

Amazon says I bought this January, 2012 for $7.63.

I still use it today. Great mechanical pencil.


FYI it's a design where the lead turns on "lift-off" so it's consistently giving you the "sharp side".


And this is the .5mm, I've also got a .3mm that I use.


Prefer the .5 for Scantrons, obviously.

By the way, I really don't think it is a bad pencil. I'm a bit of a pencil fanatic so I take issue with things I'm guessing most people wouldn't even notice. And $3.88 isn't bad

In your post, you are suggesting that the pencil automatically advances the lead out of the pencil as you write so you don't have to click it to make it come out. However, this pencil's mechanism rotates the lead so that you have a sharp point to write on without having to manually "twist" the pencil to get a sharp line instead of a dull one.

Ah, didn't notice I phrased it like that. I didn't mean to suggest how the pencil works at all, not on a mechanical level anyways. I can see how it would appear I do

Can anyone comment on the quality of this mech pencil? I'm currently using a pentel graph 1000 for pro mech pencil.
