I drive past there empty buildings all the time its a huge empty building to remind you what your tax dollars are going for. The lay off were horrible to. I knew some one laid off the entire place was given a hour notice to get their stuff before security escorted them out and locked the doors. No such thing as job security anymore...

About 6 months ago or so, In Massachusetts (specifically Boston Metro area), I saw this being offered at Home Depot as well as part of the Nstar Energy conservation program. I drove by a house with the Solar panel installation; it didn't look too bad. Program that was offered at that time was ZERO cost to me with a contract that I would buy all the Electricity generated by the panels at a lower price than what I would be paying Nstar.
I decided against it mainly because I have plans to sell the house in 1 or 2 years and wasn't sure how buyers would react to what I consider to be a lien on the house. In addition, IMHO the savings were not significant enough for me to make a move into this uncharted waters. |

I used to work for a Sungevity out in Oakland, CA. They also do solar leases. (hence solargeek).
Here's an article explaining it better: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/20....html?_r=0 essentially, you pay no money down, they install the system to your needs, the utility requirements, local building department, and any HOA (they usually have to approve of it). you then pay a monthly fee, which will be smaller than your electricity bill and the solar offsets the rest. you benefit because there's savings in the difference between your new electric bill and the lease. possibly 10-100 a month, depending on your usage and solar array size. they benefit because they get the tax credits and rebates, which they bundle to investors who have large tax burdens and want to decrease them. It's a win-win-win. You get solar that is maintained and production is guaranteed. Solarcity stays in business. Businesses lower their tax burden. Usually at the end of the lease, you have an option to buy it for a depreciated rate. |

What kind of maintenance is required for these solar panels? Does the home owner need to be cleaning them regularly, or what? I know from using solar panels in the past that they do need regular cleaning in order to prevent reduced power output. How is the maintenance on the entire system handled?

Many wonderful resources available here by state. http://www.dsireusa.org/
Especially if you seriously considering any potential alternative enery option. Pay specific attention to Net Metering part for your state. This gives a "rating" by state really sad http://freeingthegrid.org/ |

With respect guys, but your insane. Hail damage on solar panels is rated around 3/4" hail @ 50 or so MPH. If you check your desired solar panel design PDF it will show what its rated at for hail. Regarding this being a scam... while the company may have issues... the truth of the fact is solar install generate something called SRECs (in jersey at least) for every 1000 KW generated. those SRECs are translated into CASH... up till recently they were worth around $600 a piece... now they are worth $100 (in jersey). This where these FREE SOLAR companies are making the money. NOTE: Figure on 6-8 SRECs per year generated depending upon average size of 6-8KW installs. Additionally as mentioned above... there is also a 30% federal rebate on solar installs... so 20K minus 30%... is the total cost. If you factor in the cost of a standard 6-8KW install $20K it will only take a few years for them to pay off the investment and start bringing in MO MONEY. Have fun... I'll leave you guys back to playing in the sandbox. ppp |

could be worse... I live in new jersey. I drive past the ultra big failed mall in the meadowlands that was paid for by the taxpayers. 5 years building it before they went bust. New jobs in new Jersey... 2 billion dollars. Its nearly fully built.. space for hundreds of stores... Did you know there's an indoor ski ramp there? They couldn't fill even half the stores... its completely abandoned now.. and needs another 2 billion dollars to finish... back in 2003, I actually spoke with my senator.. you know.. menendez.. the guy from the news with the prostitutes.... about how the location was plain stupid. I started out with eco conservation and lead to the fact that there's no direct public transportation despite there being a rail stop a measly 3 miles away.... through swamps and wetlands... to the mall. They planned for people to get there with buses... Do you know how stupid that is? Not only did they pave over like a hundred acres of origionally protected wetlands, They said they were saving it.. sigh... He was a big supporter of it... and now its all a bit fishy with his campaign contributions... Death to all politicians.... Last edited by jagace; 02-21-2013 at 04:59 AM.. |
