If you refer to your husband/wife as 'DH/DW', you're too old to be active on a forum.
If you ask for marriage advice on a(ny) forum, you should seriously reevaluate your life. If you don't know the difference between 'their', 'there', and 'they're', I automatically assume you have a mental disability (same goes for to/two/too and your/you're/yore). |

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Warning There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before you change the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class value is CDROM. If you see UpperFilters in the pane on the right side, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry. If you see LowerFilters in the pane on the right side, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer. |

that says DVD/CD-ROM Devices. When I look in the other folders I see upper and lower but i don't think they are related to the dvd/cd rom devices. Picture: (Click to Picture to Enlarge).

could do a search as those filters can be in any of those subkeys

If you are in the correct subtree CD/DVDROM delete all of them.. you can backup the registry first if you are worried. Basically delete every instance of upper and lower filters in the CD/DVD subtree only |

On my XP PC, in my computer, my DVD drive is called a 'CD Drive' in my computer. It will not read DVD-/+ R's anymore.
The DVD Drive I'm using is the 'Maxtor 6L200M0'. I've tried searching for driver updates using Windows Live, but that did not work. If someone could find the driver I need (if that is the problem), then I'd be willing to try that. I read somewhere that the NVidia IDE Driver could have messed it up, but I do not have the NVidia IDE Driver installed on my computer. I've also tried the obvious 'restart the computer', and of course that didn't work. If anyone could help I would be very thankful. Like I said, I can't do anything with DVDs and it will not allow me to burn anything. When I put in a blank DVD-R it says 0kb free of 0kb. I desperately need to free up space on my computer, but I can't just delete the files. |

NO only keys that are Upper/Lower filters registry entries
