Thrift shop is certainly catchy, and I'm in favor of supporting the artist for good music. That said, you can't avoid this song on the radio. At any point in time, I can flip to one of the 4 or 5 hip-hop/pop type radio stations here in Atlanta and can with almost 100% certainty be sure to find it playing.

Not a comment on the quality of the music, but just a note to those who keep shouting indie. The Alternative Distribution Alliance, who Macklemore and Ryan Lewis hired to get "Thrift Shop" on the radio is an division of Warner Music Group.

I use Spotify for everything lately, but bought to throw him some money.

I cant believe it but I know people who went to the thrift store for the first time just because of this song!

As someone that thoroughly enjoyed Goodwill and Salvation Army in college, I fully support his hit Thriftshop.

Ten Thousand Hours, Thrift Shop, Make the Money, Neon Cathedral, BomBom, Wing$, Gold, Starting Over are great songs, and I love a few others as well, but can understand that some are just personal preference. To each his own I guess.

Distribution is not a "label" and have no influence on the music they just get them into stores, itunes, and radio stations.
Distinct difference and still makes him independent. Almost any independent artist uses a big name distributor.

He has also turned down record deals for several big labels before Thrift Shop blew up.

I guess we can disagree on what being "indie" entails. I think I'd term what you describe as "self-financed." I suppose it's all semantics and I absolutely concede that the vast majority of "indie" musicians work with major labels in one way or another. The whole thing just smells of AstroTurf and green-washing to me.
Oh, and according to Rolling Stone [bit.ly] it seems the gentlemen have changed their view on major labels.
