Seems as though this might be an ideal HTPC drive - power performance close to a Green drive, but still good speed and relatively quiet. It's also rated for 24/7 operation.
I have 4x 7K1000s in my desktop (RAID10) and they've been rock-solid for a couple months now. This appears to be significantly quieter than those when seeking. Just put a second one of these (from the shell shocker deal) into my main machine to create a mirror. Running great.

These are my favorite 3TB drives. Currently have 11 running with no problems.

I'm strongly leaning towards picking up 2 of these for a RAID1 array in my new HTPC build. Was also considering WD Green/Red and the Seagate 3TB, but these seem to be the perfect balance of features/performance/reliability of all of those. |

Seems to be a lot of people excited to see these rebadged Hitachi drives back in circulation. They supposedly work well in arrays. I picked one up to act as a storage drive. Thanks OP.

Can this be used as a boot drive without any issues? I was reading the reviews which mentioned GPT rather than MBR. While familiar with MBR, I had not heard of GPT. And while I do not mind splitting the drive into multiple partitions - OS, Data, Shared Data, would this solve the MBR issues?

Hmm tough decision between these and WD Red series. I have been holding out in getting some drives for my next server build and may be tempted for prices to drop but this seems to be about the price they are going for when on sale.

Given that multiple people on Newegg are claiming the warranty is actually 3 years when they run their serials (advantage - even), they're relatively low-power (advantage - Red), 7200 RPM (advantage - Toshiba), and rated for 24/7 use (advantage - even), the price differential (advantage - Toshiba) is pushing me towards a couple of these. |

FYI - the three I bought when this went FP all have Jan 2015 as the warranty end date. So 2 years. I think the confusion is Toshiba announced that they were increasing their warranty on some drives (I think those being laptop drives.) to 3 years.
