I have a 50in Panasonic plasma that uses 589 watts. This thing uses 213 (from what I can tell)
Difference of 376 watts. At 5 hrs/day that is 1.88 kWh. I think I currently pay ~.14 per kWh once all the fees are added on. I would save $0.2632 a day. This thing will pay for itself in 8.3 years, then I will be saving money. What an investment! |

attached thumbnail shows a samsung smart tv lol
AS FOR DLP, yes it's a rather dead technology. I had a sammy DLP back in 06-07 and it was full of SSE which made all white's look like glitter. It was def thick, and you will eventually need to replace the bulb. Also color wheels sometimes can be worrisome. I dunno, for the price its hard to beat, but meh I'd stay away and get something a little more future proof and sexier |

Mitsu DLP's aren't very good.
I don't think they are in the game anymore, but when Samsung made them they actually had very good picture quality, on par, if not better than flat screens of the time. They also made a model (which i own) that didn't use a color wheel so you didn't have any rainbow effect nonsense. It also uses LED's so you really don't have to ever replace any bulbs or anything because the life of the LED will probably outlast the TV it's self. The LED also contributed greatly to picture quality. Anyways in terms of cost per linear inch its a good deal but your taking a quality dive... Id say your better off with a budget 60" that will atleast last long, and have a better pic, also it wont have planned maintenance like this DLP. |

Bought the 3d version at Paulstv a few weeks before Black Friday. I think it was $950 minus $100 coupon (minus cash back site), free shipping no tax. The thing is frickin' huge, in my basement, and everyone loves it. Kids play games, watch movies.....Easy set up. Got the squaretrade warranty in case.
I'm very happy with my purchase. I agree with another poster, the hugeness makes up for the minor issues with fast moving football players that are zoomed on. |

My father's Mitsubishi (hate to sound like a broken record) already has pits in the screen after 3 years. He bought a 73" and has had nothing but headaches. The fix to replace the processor responsible for the pitting is relatively simple and the replacement costs only $200 but it's still posed nothing but a headache for him. This thread should also be a warning, If Mitsubishi is discontinuing their product, what does that mean about finding parts in the future? http://hometheater.about.com/b/20...-alert.htm
If you want a large "throw-away" type TV, go for this, but even my father who can be placed in the cheapskate-hall-of-fame said he made a mistake in buying this TV. And as far as the whole 'DLP is an outdated technology' argument, my father didn't care about that, it was the TV's parts failing 1 month after the warranty, the lack of customer service from Mitsubishi, and the overall poor experience he's had with this TV that made him unsatisfied. (I didn't even mention how connecting a blu-ray device was problematic for the TV at times i.e. flickering and overall video distortion). If you buy this TV, buy the longest warranty so that you can maybe have it replaced by something hopefully nicer since these things are no more. Last edited by TXGoat; 02-22-2013 at 03:35 AM.. |

Nothing but great luck with my dlp tv's.
2004 50" RCA DLP still going strong on the first bulb in the basement. Second 4 yr old 60" mits still going strong in the great room. brothers 73" mits still playing strong after 3 years friends 2 yr old 73" mits still playing on strong. not bad for an ancient technology in my opinion!
