Perc 5 raid controller(2TB limit )

Either CentOS or Windows 7.

Currently I have two 2TB WD Reds. They'll be in a Raid 1 initially. As I get more, I'll convert to a Raid 5.

This will be a NAS, FTP, Torrent and VPN server. So Raid 0 doesn't make much sense. The OS will be on an SSD. If Anything, I could just get one of these and leave it external and set it to backup only important directories.

Oh the decisions.

I have them sitting on my table right now. Seagate used to use DX but newer versions of this drive seem to have DM's

My math is based on a future/better pricing. And as I already stated in my post it is a good deal - for someone who needs it now - thus repped the OP and Thumbed up the deal. But as I'm already stocked up, I can wait for some more time to find a great deal.

But I have two different Seagate external hard drives, they always give me error: "generic volume error and can not be stopped" when I try to stop them after use.

More performance focused? I wonder how much of a difference 5900 vs 7200 RPM would affect recording with Fraps or MSI Afterburner. These still have to get 120-140 MB/s read-write. But I saw a benchmark where SSDs helped significantly when recording with Fraps.

I would pull the drives and build a RAID 1 NAS with them (would buy two of these). 5900rpm would probably be fine, but I'm a picky SD'er and want 7200rpm for the best performance.

For only backups 5900 vs 7200 really doesn't matter

If you really need more space, buy it now. Otherwise, you can wait till a good deal coming up. We're living in a free country, right?
I'll check mine if it's DX or DM when I get home.
