Dude...you seem to be the only one that received it so far here. Did it have a win7 or win8 emblem? Seems that is a possible indicator of the drive inside.
I had to head to work after receiving it but I will have a look at it and post as soon as I get back home.

I received a PN 1DXAN5-570 on the retail box, and 1DXAP4-500 on the enclosure. Opened it up, got a ST4000DM000 drive. GRRRRR

I bought packs of 4, and the date on the outside of that box was 02-01-2013. Win8 labels.

I have 3 coming my way and would prefer the quieter, lower power 5900 rpm drives. If someone in the Portland, Oregon area would like to do an exchange (assuming I get the 7200 rpm drives and you get the 5900 drives) PM me. Seems most people would prefer the 7200 rpm drives, but I would prefer the 5900 rpm drives.

Haven't even received them yet. But in anticipation that I may receive the 7200 ones, while I prefer the 5900 rpm guys, I figure someone would want to exchange since most seem to prefer the 7200 rpm ones.

Sounds like boxes with Win8 stickers have 5900rpm and Win7 boxes have 7200rpm

Are you saying that you opened the black plastic enclosure and the drive insided was marked Barracuda XT, ST4000DX000?

Or are you going by the 'PN: 1DXAP4-500' printed on the label attached to the black plastic enclosure?

The DX in PN: 1DXAP$-500 does NOT mean the hard drive inside is a DX drive.
I say this because I have opened up two such enclosures. One had a 7200 rpm drive inside, the other a 5900 rpm drive.

Thanks.

Honestly I haven't opened up the enclosure, just replied based on the part numbers provided with the box and enclosure. I fully intend to use mine as a backup for all my movies and tv shows just in case of one of my current hard drives fails.

I'd probably break the enclosure when trying to get it open anyway.

I notice that Staples has a 20% off coupon coming on Sunday. This drive is $167.99 on the Staples website.

$167.99 - 20% = $134.39 + tax
that price is more like it.

where do you get this coupon exactly?

I took my drive apart using an iSesamo today. No scratches or broken parts. I could put it back together without anyone being the wiser. I did a warranty check on the bare drive and Seagate says: Expiration 21-Dec-2015
I did a warranty check on the external and Seagate says: Expiration 21-Mar-2015

So by holding on to the external enclosure I get an extra 3 months of warranty service. Total warranty is 2 years 1 month from when I bought it. The part number on the drive inside is: 1CL160-570 It's a Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM drive.
