This is a good point. An excellent example of this is George Zimmerman. He was aware of his surroundings and any suspicious people in the vicinity. I don't think they should be able to carry in a bar or a building where the owner has forbidden it. I think there should be background checks. I also think there is a line where some weapons shouldn't be available to the public (grenades, tanks, etc.--i'm ok with "assault rifles" but might be ok with requiring special training/licensing). Otherwise i am pretty pro-gun.

Sure everything is peachy in 2013, but what about 3013 or 3063? What about for my grandchildren or great grandchildren?

No, in other words, there isn't enough data on it to determine a statistical difference. Read the whole paper before you start changing the words to suit your predetermined conclusion.

The first thing I tell any woman I talk to about getting a firearm is that she needs to be prepared to use it and can't hesitate to do so if she needs to. Then it is for her to decide. Not you. I'm not going around shoving guns into purses as you might imagine.

It is amazing all the sexists this thread has brought out. Women in hysterics shooting wildly. Women too timid to shoot at all. Can't we at least get the story straight? LMAO

Aren't there any competent women out there? Heaven forbid we allow them to decide for themselves. Imagine, thinking women OMG

I didn't pretend. That is the conclusion of the study. I'd imagine the facts would be very hard to ascertain, because very few non-crimes prevented by firearms are reported in the first place. If it doesn't come to shooting, what is to report? Additionally, women who take the time to conceal carry, and therefore would be in a position to protect themselves with a firearm, have also been educated on avoiding situations that would lead to the attempt of such a crime.

You wouldn't have been accused of changing words had you stated "the conclusion I draw from "blah blah data" is blah blah blah. IOW is meant to paraphrase and break down a quote. If you think you were doing that, you either didn't read it or didn't understand it.

BTW: I do not think these suggestions are moronic. I won't say I know they are effective but if I had to guess I would say they are indeed effective.

Of course gun issues are always political but I do not see why this should be a liberal vs conservative issue.

it's a "Pee/vomit/period vs. gun issue" because that's exactly how it came about.. The argument was making it a gun free zone (Colorado college students). Thus rape discussion came about.. and they were advised to... use rape whistles/pee/vomit/period etc..

I don't mean per say these suggestions are absolutely moronic.. but in comparison to other defense methods they somewhat are.

In terms of women's self defense, the idea is normally stun and run. Example, knee to groin, eye gouge etc.. and take off. It's a one strike system in terms of "women's self defense". Assuming the female is completely overpowered (which don't really imply) they're giving you the most passive options one could imagine. One could easily put plead and beg at the end of the list also.. but how effective is that?

Shouldn't people have the option? I know some women who are rape victims from many years ago and are very very cautiousness. Taking away the option to be armed would actually stop them from walking at night (regardless of alone or not). I'll pose the question again.. the woman who was brutally raped and died from India, would a pee/vomit/etc.. have in all likelihood have made a difference? If she had a gun would it have? Which method of defense would most likely have caused her to be alive today?
