They work fine for file services, especially with the updated firmware. I just would not recommend this for Media use with only the 1.6 Marvell processor and 256 MB of not upgradeable RAM. That's pretty old technology. It is not a PRO or ULTRA unit so don't expect it to do alot with additional apps.

I'm in for one, even if it's only for use in backing up the Synology (1812+).

I thought this deal was pretty awesome mainly because the price. No rebate involved, free shipping or pick up in store (Tax). Actually tax either way if a store is in your state.

However, I called and cancelled my order. Too many issues with this device, very limited add-on packages (ARM Processor/256mb RAM) and dated design even though this is a relatively new unit. I'll stick with the Synology DS1812+ I have, and look for other backup options.

It is now showing as pickup in store only. Online sold out pretty fast!

I picked one up at a local Fry's myself and have 15 days to decide whether I want to keep it or buy a QNap / Synology, as long as I don't open it. Wanting to move on from my slow Iomega Storcenter with 400MHz and 64MB

4 drive bays instead of 2, which allows for RAID5. However the Ultra 2 has an Atom instead of ARM, and 4x more ram.

I am actually debating on the NV+ v2 I bought still, because I don't really need 4 bays yet (my family hasn't even filled my 500GB RAID1 setup from 2008 yet). I just want a faster NAS since my current RAID1 is slow (16MB/s on ideal conditions, much slower on random files).
