Just wondering, but why call them all crappy? For example, Bitdefender recently scored most effective. [av-test.org] While the rankings do frequently change both Kaspersky and Bitdefender seem to generally stay at or near the top, along with Norton.

I just wouldn't want to see someone take a pass on free good security software after seeing it listed as crappy in your OP.

Don't use AV, just slows me down. Adblock + Flashblock + Pop-up addon + Imageblock and deny auto-scripting... I'm still convinced to this day that 90%+ of viruses are made by and propagated by the "big" AV companies. Wink

You should always do this, but I would be very thorough with your rebate submissions and make copies for your records, it seems like the software rebate game is changing overall right now and they're actively looking to screw people in 2013. Some formerly reliable companies are denying rebates a lot more aggressively in the last couple of months or dragging their heels in paying out. It wouldn't surprise me if more and more companies follow suit, since virtually all of these rebates are handled by the same handful of rebate processing companies.

At least Frys has usually been helpful about handling rebate problems.
