I received my one, and only Smith Micro rebate that I completed for a product at Fry's a couple of months ago.

However, on the form, there is fine print that says:
"Limit one rebate per name, address, or household."

If I recall correctly, I remember someone on SD said they submitted two rebates for entirely different Smith Micro products and only one went through and the other was denied.

When they asked why it was denied, someone at Parago said, "you are only entitled to one rebate per name, address, household for ALL Smith Micro products."

Whether or not there is any truth to that... I do not know.

I submitted 4 different smithmicro products in december and have received all four rebates, the items were all +purchased at newegg. If i remember correctly you have to send a copy of the product registration card with serial number in with the rebate, whether they use that or not I don't now, but that effectively kills any resell I would say...anyone else have an idea on that? I had just given them away to family who I thought might have fun with them as stocking suffers for christmas...

[EDIT] For a $5 newegg GC and now a new year I'll give it a shot...

I just thought I'd share what I remembered someone else saying. I was tring to locate the thread, but I couldnt remember which product it was for, just that it was SmithMicro.

I remember that they required a completed product registration form and the serial # on both the rebate form itself and registration form. I wondered at the time what they do with that too.

Like you said, it does effecively kill any resale value because the license would be forever tied in your name. Probably a decent program though for free if the rebate comes back fine.

I purchased the SmithMicro Voila software from NewEgg and filed a rebate for it. I also filed a rebate for SmithMicro SnagIt on the same day, purchased from NewEgg. I received both checks about a month later, no issues.


As user m715 pointed out, you need to register the software and provide your registration number/customer number on the registration card as part of the documents required for the rebate. I registered my software online, since the rebate form asked for a registration number. I then wrote down the registration number, customer number and serial number on the registration card that was included in the software packaging. I sent in that registration card along with a printed confirmation e-mail from their online registration system, the UPC from the software packaging, a copy of my invoice and the registration form.

This is time intensive. To get anything out of it it takes a pretty large time commitment. So unless they are hardcore animation artist wannabees, probably not. Ironically my childhood friend would have fallen in that category. So they do exist.
