I regularly use the extension bar set (though I bought mine years ago). If you do anything in cars you'll need it eventually. It seems a good price at $9.99.

That's for sure, and likely some flex extensions/wobbles too.

I second that you will need extensions if you ever do anything. I've gotta pull out the extension bar and spark plug socket whenever I replace them. It's so easy that I find myself changing them almost yearly.

I got a Stanley extension set from Wal Mart for like 12 bucks.

I'm considering getting that adapter set. I got very frustrated last weekend when I had a 3/8" socket and wanted to use my 1/2" breaker but couldn't.

I bought it the last time it was $9.99, and that's the exact type of scenario I had in mind when I bought it. I haven't needed them yet, but it's nice to know they're there.

Hey Corwin, I know you're a big Craftsman fan, but I was wondering if I could get your opinion on this Pittsburgh extendable ratchet. I like the extendable handle and the rubber grip. The craftsman ratchets I was using this weekend felt really uncomfortable and I was considering getting this 1/2 ratchet and the 3/8 + 1/4 equivalent. What do you think? I probably use it 2-3 times a year. The 1/2 is only $14.99 and the 3/8 + 1/4 is $12.99.

The fact that it extends like that could be handy, but I wonder how it would hold up if you were really torquing on it when it was extended, since the handle is hollow. The reviews are pretty good though. I don't have any Pittsburgh stuff myself, so I can't speak to the quality, but if you're only using it a couple of times a year I tend to think it would probably be fine.

You can always Plasti-Dip your Craftsman ratchet handles...that should add a little comfort.

Thanks. I wasn't considering Pittsburgh stuff either but I found the same wrench on Amazon by AMpro for $22 that had 5 star reviews. The wrench I linked is a rebranded version of the same wrench for only 15.

I put a plastic pipe on the end of one of my wrenches last week to get a bolt off. Figured this would suffice in the few instances that I would need a breaker bar. Most of the other stuff I would use the 1/4 or 3/8 stuff probably doesn't need high torque, so I'm not too concerned about it breaking. I just would prefer a little comfort with a wrench I'm using.

The issue with the craftsman I think is that the handle is so thin that when my hand felt really funny when I broke a bolt.

Good point, I've wrapped one with high density foam and electrical tape before, but that gets nasty after awhile, your way is much neater.

Got the socket organizers for all the socket sets I've accumulated over the years.
