Can someone please tell me how it could make economic sense to "refurbish" an alarm clock? Is someone really shipping these to China for rural workers to "refurbish"? That seems nuts.

Personally, I was looking for a very simple alarm clock (when it comes to alarm clocks, the simpler the better!) with big numbers. This seems to fit the bill. And the price is obviously right.

It doesnt work. At first it was very annoying to set every time it would give me the wrong time. Then mine just started showing 88:88 I cudnt tell the time at all. then I called newegg then they advise me there is nothing they can do and told me to call the manufacturer.The manufacturer said if its refurbished through 3rd party they cannot do anything but if it was bought new you can ship it to them at your own cost and attach your invoice and reason why it doesn t work and a 10.00 check or money order which wasnt worth it for me so I just threw it out. I just use my iphone app alarm clock I gave up on the clock

A refurbished Emerson alarm clock? Why would you want to put this junk in your house?

Chances are there is one thing that fails in this alarm clock. They probably collected all the returned ones and had someone stateside quickly fix them (solder or glue something) and then box them up again. But even then, I agree, profit margins must have been really slim.

So, what you are saying is that you spent $400 - $800 on a smart phone to use as alarm clock?

Can a dumb phone work as alarm clock? Most can.

Can $10 alarm clock work as alarm clock, sure it can.

Does everyone keep their phone by their bed? Probably not. Our phones are in a charging cradle in the kitchen at night. If there is an emergency they will call the house phone.

I got a smartphone because I like to surf and do tether on it.

Bc of this, I dont need to use an alarm clock or even a watch anymore.

A refurb just means it was returned to the manufacturer for any reason and a tech looked it over to make sure it worked. Refurbs are not usually repaired.
