ESCO - Electric/Gas provider suggestions?

Hello,

I am in the NYC area being served by ConEdison. I am currently with Energetix (soon to be Direct Energy). I've been with them for awhile now and haven't look at the rates. This month my gas was ($0.89 per kwh up from 0.65 last month) and electric was $0.08 per unit. The plan is variable/market rate.

I found out ConEdison is offering better variable rates this month month. I think the benefit of ESCO has been overstated. What are the benefits really? I understand that you can save on some taxes.. other than that, the rates are hit or miss.

I'm going to cancel with no penalties and go back to ConEdison for the time being.

Any thoughts on shopping for fixed rates plan (with no contract/cancellation fees, of course)? I was able to find a few, but the rates weren't that mindblowingly low... but significant enough to warrant a look. Or should I keep it simple and eliminate the middle man and keep with ConEdison.


Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
