Simply put, they only did a quick basic test to make sure that it meets standards. The 3 stars mean that it was extensively tested. It is my professional opinion that the SB6141 is just as good, if not better than the 6121. |

I have the SB6121 and it definitely works great with Comcast, and gives the full speed of whatever plan you're paying for and then some.
I'm still debating on the SB6141, there's no doubt it's a more future-proof model, and would be even faster with the right connection, but there are reports around the internet that it either performs worse or just as good as the SB6121. My guess is the SB6121 is pushed as the model to get since it's older and will go EOL (End of Life) in just a few years, so that's why lots of IPs want you to get it. I have a Motorola cable modem that worked just fine, but Comast EOL'd it by dropping support - essentially refusing to allow it to send/receive data - without ever giving advance notification - simply because it's 5+ years old. So I spent the next weeks without internet trying to find out what the issue was and eventually having to buy a new modem. The SB6121 is already a few years old, if you want to get just a few years out of it. the SB6121 is fine. If you want to keep the same modem for a longer time, you might want to get the SB6141, as it's a much newer model. It might be slower on some plans or until the firmware is updated, but it might be faster and might just be the better buy in the long run. |

I have a SB6121 on Comcast it works flawlessly. I did have problems with it for a little bit as well as many others, there is a huge thread about it here [comcast.com] on the Comcast forums. However since then they have updated my firmware & I have not had any problems with the modem in months. The SB6141 isn't rated that high of a certification level shown here [comcast.net]. My guess is because it just came out, it has not been through that much testing.
The main difference the SB6141 can bond on to 8 channels (I'm not sure if it can do 8 upstream channels) vs the 4 channels of the SB6121. My SB6121 bonds onto 4 channels down & only 2 up (not 4). I also just have blast which hits 30+ with powerboost. I max out almost every single time on speed tests regardless of time of day. If you are planning on getting extreme 50 or higher package I would get the new model but otherwise it's probably not going to matter. I'm not sure if Comcast would have it bond on to 8 channels on anything below 50 anyway, they might just have never tested the new one. Record Slick Deal:
