That's it exactly. I've spoken to several TWC/Road Runner techs begging them to upgrade my firmware. They usually put me on hold and talk to their managers .. then come back and tell me: NO.

They are idiots for not upgrading the firmware as it'll simply mean I will have to keep calling them, reporting outages since my SB6141 reboots every few hours.

yeah, that really sucks because the modem works great. it's all about whether your ISP will provide good customer service to you since only your ISP can keep your modem updated with the latest firmware. here's the latest version:

thing is, motorola releases the firmware only to the ISP and then the ISP must send it to your hardware. you can't even get it directly from motorola on a thumb drive or something.

Yep. I know the drill well. The first TWC tech I spoke to said "Talk to Motorola" .. so I did! Same thing there, too. Got a tech, begged him for a way to upgrade the firmware .. he does some research and says "no chance. Your ISP must do it."

It's quite perverse. I suppose RoadRunner doesn't care. All they want is for you to go back to renting their modems.

I didn't make an offer for $67 on ebay to some guy who sells modems and it didn't get accepted. It shouldn't be here in a couple of days because I didn't buy a modem from the modem seller on ebay.

that really blows. i purchased the 6141 just to stop the ridiculous $7 monthly fee comcast was charging for one of their old 2.0 modems. at least it appears they keep-up with the motorola firmware versions though.

what FW version is yours?

Sweet, got a 6141 for $67. So now I can get rid of the stupid $4.27 charge every month from TWC.

I needed amodem. So I bought amodem from a reseller that sells modems. I offered them $65 for amodem. They accepted my offer for amodem. So I bought amodem for $65 with free shipping. I bet if you searched for amodem you would find one too.

Edit: this was a 6141. Not the 6121.

Ended up with the 6141 for $73 on eBay. Wish eBay would have told me that tax was to be charged (seller in CA - I'm in WA) - especially when tax is higher than my county tax rate. That was $7 I wasn't hoping to spend. I offered $65 and $66 and both were automatically declined. $67 went through though.

As an update, I spoke to a level 3 tech today. Turns out the old 2011 August firmware is the one that TWC is using (in my area). They haven't upgraded to the 2012 firmware yet.
