Since we opened the subject for wireless routers, any thoughts of the Linksys EA3500? I purchased a refurb as well as soon as I got the 6141 deal for about $60, and have read good reviews on it, but would like to hear thoughts on it from the people in this forum. Thanks!
I'm pretty sure this router would have more bells and whistles than I'm used to, but I thought it was a decent deal to pair with a new modem. Sent from the official Slickdeals App for iPhone & iPod Touch.

the thing about the current routers is they should become cheaper as wireless 802.11ac phase one should go live in 2014.

Here's their take on the 3500: http://www.smallnetbui If I was planning on using an alternative firmware, I'd probably save $30-40 and buy a cheaper router with solid hardware and crappy firmware. Last edited by sklar; 02-28-2013 at 06:42 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

it's not going to be "obsolete" in 2 years. Will it be the latest and greatest, no, but it will work. I was watching this thread because I am using the same modem I bought 5 years ago and I need an upgrade. It still works though and happy to not be out $350+ for renting that amount of time when it cost me $40. Even if you buy this and use it for 1 year, it will cost you less then renting during that time, and you have something you can sell. |

As an update to my story .. long story short, I bought a SB6141 in December that rebooted 10x a day. They replaced the coax to the pole, and it went down to rebooting 5x a day.
Bought another new SB6141 and same problem, reboots 5x a day or so. Got a helpful tier 3 roadrunner tech to experiment with me .. I now have two SB6141s on my account, one owned by me, one RR leased SB6141. Both have the same hardware, firmware, everything is identical. Guess what .. the RR owned one never reboots, while the SB6141 I got from Amazon reboots 5x a day. So .. _maybe_ I got two bad SB6141s .. but I doubt it. The current theory is that Motorola does something different with the RR leased modems, yet doesn't show up in firmware version numbers .. or something. Or RR is somehow treating customer owned modems differently than their own. Who knows. |
