No they dont. If its defective, you ask them for a prepaid label. I do this with all online retailers (amazon, buy.com, newegg, etc.).

It's not my fault is DOA and therefore I am not paying to send it back. It's your merchandise Newegg, you should make it right by sending me a replacement.

Except that the RMA/refurb (if it is a refurb) from WD still has a 3-year warranty and it was refurbished (if it was) by WD itself. Your luck at that point even with a refurbished drive from WD is just as good as buying a retail from Newegg. In fact, at least WD will likely send you a drive that isn't DOA. Meaning you can RMA with Newegg but they may send you a new drive which could also be DOA as well.

I agree, thanks I will give this a try...can't hurt to argue that point.

True, chances of DOA are much lower getting a refurb back from WD. In fact, it is highly likely that I am getting a drive that was damaged by newegg before being recertified Still, the drive is marked 'refurb' and if I ever try to resell the drive (yes, sometimes I do this on CL) it will be much harder to sell the one that has a 'refurb' sticker on it. The entire label is marked that so its not like i can take it off.
