Dyson DC44 Animal Vacuum Cleaner $300 shipped @ eBay

I can't justify buying a new vacuum cleaner right now, especially at that price point, but these comments are making me really second guess that decision...

I'm still confused.

I would be using this almost exclusively on wood floors. I cannot tell from ANY of the reviews or product pages if the brush roll will TURN OFF the roll that is meant for carpets or use a different attachment.

I am NOT OKAY with using a brush roll meant for carpets on my wood floors for obvious reasons, but I can't tell ANYWHERE how exactly this works with this vacuum.

Telling me it has "carbon fiber elements" and then bristles for deep carpet cleaning appears contradictory. Are these two separate heads?

Thanks for some input here on how this deals with wood floors.

The brush roll WILL NOT turn off. If that attachment is connected, it's spinning. It has two types of bristles on the same head. The carbon fiber set is supposed to reduce static on hard surfaces and act as a better "sweeper", but in my experience that head only pushes around large particles on hard surfaces anyways, so it's not very good.

Edit: it works acceptably on carpets considering it's a cordless vacuum, but still nowhere near as well as a corded vacuum.

My girlfriend just got this as as gift (We just moved into a new apartment). It's great and picks up a ridiculous amount of dirt and hair and we don't even have an animal right now.

It's great for rugs but just be aware if you have a lot of "fluffy" or thick rugs it won't do so well. I use it for my car and it's amazingly quick. We're especially tight on storage in an apartment so the compactness is awesome. It actually maneuvers extremely well. I find myself just using the hose attachment and going around the house to just vacuum up dust bunnies around the house and you don't have to lug around a big ass vacuum.

Worth the money? Eh... Depends on if you're a clean freak like me.

And the brush does NOT turn off when vacuuming. I use it on hardwood floors too, but I don't have anything fancy so I'm fine with it.

this thing is a total POS, I got one and its not worth the money, its does make a glorified dustbuster though IMHO

I have the money for it and it looks like a perfect companion to my DC41. I can give my sister my DC35 and replace it with this as it's much more powerful.

I love using this for stairs or quick pick ups. I vacuum with my portable once a day and my full size twice a week.

Thanks - that's the impression I got but it kept acting like it was good for wood floors.

BS - any decent hardwood floor installation will warn you right off the bat not to use a roller brush on them.

Too bad, keeping my $15 wonder from wal-mart. That damn thing keeps on going and going. Cord is only negative.
