Having worked at the USPS, let me tell you, the only person who actually touched your envelop and may have seen it was the carrier who delivered it. Everything before that point is automated. And even then, carriers sort and deliver so much mail, I find it highly unlikely they even noticed it for more than a second. I probably wouldnt even put a freeze on my accounts, unless you know you wont need a credit check for a while. Just pull a free credit report now and in a few months.

From a QA perspective, I would push it up the chain simply to get them to realize it occurred, find out why it happened, and hopefully make changes so it doesn't happen again to you or someone else. I think if you word your complaint that way, and send it to some higher-ups, you're more likely to get a response.

Lifelock is a scam, search this forum or google. And frankly, making demands is the surest way to get them to stop talking and refer everything to their lawyers.

actually it might be clean for the next 30-60 days. Credit companies do not report a new account immediately.

I have worked hard to keep my credit history pristine. I am not about to let their administrative screw up mess with my credit. If I'm being unreasonable, please let me know. I'm truly interested in hearing what others think.

Unreasonable? No. Unnecessarily worried? Yes. Back in the day, the bad o' 80's. Everyone's SSN was on everything. Most insurance companies used it as an ID number on the ID card. My SSN has been stolen from just about every school or company I've given it too. I have a pile of those "We just like you to know that we lost a laptop and your SSN may have been compromised." letters. So in the end, does this incident really matter? Chances are, your SSN is already floating out there in the identity selling market.

If it's meaningless, add your SSN to your sig.
