Howdy all. I seek a new laptop for under $1000 that is very light and portable. I am constantly running around to do errands with my job - and I need to bring a computer with me. I walk and take public transportation, so I want it to be easy!
I did read a guide: Lightweight Laptops[squidoo.com]. I am not sure if any of those is a good fit for me. What do you think? I like the look of the Samsung Series 5.
I would be using Photoshop, spreadsheets and documents, internet, and maybe some games on this laptop.
What you're looking for is an Ultrabook. Choose something with a screen size between 11.6" and 13.3", maybe up to 14", but that's pushing it. That squidoo website is stupid, they just arbitrarily chose some random computers and threw them together into an "article." Try some real tech websites, like Tom's Hardware or AnandTech for solid, reliable reviews.
Lenovo is the sturdiest - look at the T430 first. It might be a little heavier than you're looking for, but it's an EXTREMELY solid machine w/a 14" screen. You can get this one with discrete graphics if you want to use it as a gaming platform.
Second would be the Thinkpad X230 - VERY small & light w/a 12" screen.
