The LZ designation is absolutely no different from the LL model. All is designates is that this was intended to be sold in Singapore. This is listed on the Apple forums.

Hold on....so the BIOS will support 16GB of RAM even tho Apple says it maxes out at 8GB? Do any other MBP's have the same ability to recognize more RAM than the specs call for?

lol why would people get 16GB for ram, the i5 will most likely not able to use all that memory anyway. I'd save my money.

That's not true; any 64-bit CPU can address multiple PETAbytes of RAM.

I know for a fact that Sandy and Ivy Bridge MBPs can handle 16GB of RAM with no issues, so anyone considering upgrading, don't fret.

As far as typical usage scenarios, I have 8GB in my 2011 MBP and I routinely max it out. It's very easy to fill up 8GB of RAM nowadays, particularly if you use Photoshop, Illustrator, Unity, and any virtualization machines.

I've seen 16GB as low as $50, but that's typically no-name brands. Quality RAM can get as low as $60 for 16GB, but you'll need to be patient.

I, for one, am waiting for the Haswell MBPs before I bite. A retina Haswell MBP is a dream machine for me.
