Got one in Alpharetta GA yesterday evening for 49.99 plus tax. Cashier did the PM without hesitation, I then gave the coupon code (said that I wanted to use a reward code I had) again no issues..... quick and simple, in & out no worries. BTW they had one left on the shelf, I didnt ask about the stock on hand

From the printers I have had, any printer with several different color refills all require all colors even if you just print black. I believe that is to keep the heads clear. It uses a minimal amount of each color, but even if you just want to print black the printer must have all colors with some ink. The alternative is to get a laser printer which just prints in black or go get something like an HP which has all colors in one cartridge and costs even more.
Some printers, like the Brother MFC printers, are able to be tricked. All you have to do is cover a small portion of the cartridge. This tricks the printer into thinking that it's full. You can then just print using black cartridge.

Does anybody know if you can do this with the Pixma?

I ordered in store on Sunday and got a call today that the printer is out of stock in all their warehouses. They offered me a HP Deskjet 3520 if I wanted it. The HP has nowhere near the features of the Pixma892. No duplex printing, no automatic document feeder. So I do not want what they are offering so I'm stuck getting a refund. They wouldn't budge and offer anything else.

I was able to get one this afternoon at the NYC Union Square location. Cashier got the manager to price match and I watched the manager walk away (cashier was droning on about selling me an extended warranty). Once the manager entered his office, I took out the $50 coupon and asked if he could scan this too.

Out the door for $54 and change.

What I do is cut out a small post-it that will fit into the space. See pic. I haven't replaced the colors for years now. Just the black.

I've noticed that any item I post on CL especially electronics like computers, speakers, printers, etc. that are brand new (I posted an ad for this printer as well to see if there was any takers, but of course nothing) I never get any response to those items. But I post a used item like a DLP TV that is like 5 years old I get many responses in 24 hours.

It seems that no matter how good the price is for the brand new item (often 30%-50% off from local store price) and with no tax there are hardly any takers. I wonder why that is.
