The Samsung "840 Series" is the only SSD in the marketplace using TLC (triple layer) flash chips.
Triple layer flash has worse durability than common MLC flash. It has higher voltage needs, which may increase because of the higher error rate. This translates to higher power usage. The HardOCP review site even suggested that Samsung use a thermal pad because of heat production. It has the lowest program/erase cycle rating in the industry, which will only continue to get worse as the NAND process shrinks occur. It also offers lower write speed and IOPs, particularly in the 120 GB size.
People like to make comparisons to enterprise SLC flash, but those aren't so useful, because the cost difference between MLC and TLC flash is much smaller than the difference between MLC and SLC.
