It's not great in the light. But at 14ft I'd probably want the larger set. If you can just try to look at both of them. I got mine at a local place and they were able to turn the lights out for me so I could compare both.

Try SquareTrade for a lot less. Or use Costco warranty for a lot less.

If you have blinds and already have plasma you'll probably be ok.

But from what I understand, not being able to view the picture properly in a bright room is one thing and seeing glares on TV is another....some blinds dont properly take care of glare

I have a window on each side of the tv... although they are slightly below the tv because the tv is up on a mantle above the fireplace. It is in the corner of the room, so no windows behind the tv.

Thoughts? I suppose getting the Costco deal would mean I could take it back "no questions asked" if I don't like it right?

Really? I bought the next size up (55") back in November, and it was going for $1000 around then. I never priced the 50", but I would think it would be at least a couple hundred less.

I'd take with a grain of salt this "research" that the next best price being $303 more. If it's true, then IMO it's because all the other prices are BAD, that's the only thing that makes this "hawt." Those prices are worse than what Amazon, Paul's and EPP were offering the next larger tv (my tv) through almost the entire month of November. If they're not offering it anymore, the only reason is because the new models are already coming out (ST60, with nice features like direct wireless headphone input & 3d glasses included) & the ST50s are not being made any more, not because it's so great a deal. When a model changeover occurs,that's often what happens, prices get cheaper at first, then as stock dries up, maybe more expensive. Just another perspective, hope it's of use to someone.

The ST at 1k I don't know.
The ST at $800 much easier choice.

dammit. this is getting REALLY close to my buy conditions. but i guess ill still wait out for a 60".

One thing I've been confused about though....I have a 42GT25 and I pretty much only ever use it on THX mode because its beautiful and saves me the headache/money of calibration. I wanted to get another that had both a glare filter and THX mode...the feature charts for the 2012 models only list "THX3D Certified." Is that the same thing??

I never found glare to be a problem on my older Panny. It is there I guess, but I work around it if it ever bothers me. Shut shades, turn off lights, move seats, tilt tv, ....

Most of the time I never have to think about it.

I was also debating this and went for the P50ST50. I'd sacrifice 5 inches even if the picture quality is even slightly better with the P50ST50.

Gotta resist and hold out for 55-60".
