I hear ya... And it does appear that this drives "goes both ways" per this excerpt from one of the reviews:
"[...]It comes with a stand that allows you to vertically orient the drive to minimize the desktop footprint; however, it does take a little bit of oomph to get the stand attached to the unit.[...]"

So as I said, it appears to "go both ways"... but one way requires a little more effort and patience... which would be expected.

I don't care about saving desk space. It's not like an portable external drive is that big in the first place. This one's full size, so its probably double the thickness of the one's I've been using.

I wonder if it actually achieves 12x speeds. I guess we'll never know because almost all BD-R media is 6x compatible anyways.
