Anyone can offer their personal opinion on this VS Samsung 840 NON PRO 500GB? Not too many direct comparisons out there.

"We've tested a number of capacity sizes in the SanDisk Extreme line up now and would recommend all of them. It's really hard to go wrong when offering one of the fastest SSDs at the best price." Here's my bottom line: 1. The SanDisk Extreme uses Sandisk's own 24nm toggle NAND flash chips, which is generally faster (much faster on writes - see attachments) and has a significantly longer lifespan (MLC). 2. The Samsung 840 is Samsung's budget offering, and uses cheaper Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND. They're both good drives, but I'd choose the Sandisk Extreme, no question. (I have three of the 240 capacity model, and they've been excellent drives.)

Nice price . I have the 240gb and its been pretty darn rock solid since Dec . Think I'll wait and grab another 240gb to raid ; but otherwise this is a pretty hot deal imo for a nice solid drive .

I have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro currently running the 480GB Sandisk Extreme and don't have the issue as described (the negotiated link speed is 3 Gigabit). I'm still running the older R201 firmware as well (and now know I need to update to the R211 firmware). |

can't compare this to regular samsung 840. 840= TLC while this is MLC. TLC is lower grade NAND
