love my 1TB toshibe canvio portables, fast & reliable.

Toshiba's internals are the former Hitachi/HGST drives. They acquired the tooling as part of the WD merger last year.
Anyway, I think this may be what's inside - but I'm not sure: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6822149408 (If that's the case, it's the same drive that was on sale this past weekend for $130) |

If you read the reviews, quite a few people are mentioning DEAD drives. "Died after about 3-4 weeks." "DOA" "the drive died after 2 weeks later." On and on and on. |

I'm in the market for a 2TB+ external but all the reviews about poor reliability scare me a bit. I think I'll keep waiting.
