The drive seems to work okay and the speeds are fast enough for me. I do have one complaint. The drive won't be recognized by my router if I plug it into its USB port. That sucks because I had hoped to use it as a NAS. If anyone has been able to use this as a NAS, please let me know how. Right now I just have it hooked up to my desktop and map it as a network drive to other computers. But that means my desktop has to always be on.

The 7200 RPM Seagate External 3TB and 4TB are the best deals.

I get 200 mB/s constant from my 3TB used as internal (The sata to USB3 bridge is limited to 150mB/s). I get 170 mB/s constant from my 4TB used as internal (Obviously lower seek times than 5700/5900 rpm drives as well. The thermals aren't a problem in any case with a fan by the hard drive bays, which is basically all normal size cases.

I got mine on that BB deal, about $70 after coupon.
Plugged it into a USB port on my synology ds211j NAS. It appeared on the network as an external drive to the NAS. I backed up the contents of its 2 x 2tb raid config using synology's backup and restore program. The process was extremely slow due to the NAS usb 2.0 and the limited processor, etc, but eventually got the job done.

Much faster transferring data from the usb3.0 port of my laptop.

The Office Depot deal w/ coupon seems like a good deal.

Sounds like most of the issues are related to the enclosure itself - which isn't much of a concern for me since I'm considering these for the internal drives.

JUst ordered mine and it said that there was 8 left in stock.

I have not researched this drive, and thus take my comment with a grain of salt. Almost a year ago, I bought a pair of Seagate 1.5 TB drives on a closeout from Office Depot for $30 apiece. According to the reviews, the drives had a horrible failure rate. I concluded the failures resulted from the housing, not the drives themselves. I popped the drives out of their housings, and placed them in a D-Link NAS. They have been running like champs 24/7 since. Perhaps the problems with the posted drive stem from the housing.
