I got one of these from Best Buy for $70 during the $50 off $100 extravaganza. No problems so far.

Anyway, I think this may be what's inside - but I'm not sure:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6822149408

(If that's the case, it's the same drive that was on sale this past weekend for $130)
The external drive is detailed as 5700 RPM. There internal drive you have linked is 7200 RPM. Either newegg has incorrect details listed or the internal drive you linked is not what is inside this, probably the latter.

Yup, you're right. Now that I think about it, I recall reading that Toshiba's only using the lower-speed HDDs on their externals right now. That would make this a DT01ABA300, perhaps?

It is very hard to get the enclosure off without breaking some tabs.

Now, whether when you send it back for warranty they are going to notice the broken tabs and try to invalidate it, I don't know.

ditto. This seems like a lukewarm deal. It was $119 that day at BestBuy (which is probably not the first time that you will see that deal), and with all of rewards that we have been generating from the Facebook polls, you could probably see this same deal ($110) or fairly close to it again this year.

My opinion is that this is a good backup HD. That's how I plan to use it. For $70, if it dies, I just get a new one under the warranty and copy all the data back again. 3 year warranty is nice.

Another review here -

http://www.storagereview.com/tosh...3tb_review

"The Toshiba 3TB Canvio Desk Desktop external hard is a nicely done desktop hard drive. It will meet the needs of most users with its USB 3.0 compatibility but offers little that's unique to set it apart from other competing drives. "

From Previous deal threads, its a Hitachi drive. The specifications match the Hitachi 5K3000

Owner feedback I see on that are pretty bad too.

I had a Hitachi drive that was very noisy, I returned it and went with Seagate, much quieter.

Every hard drive sold now will have bad reviews. If you go by Newegg reviews, you'll never buy a drive again. Best hope anymore is to just buy and pray! LOL...

Wrong, there are still drives out there with great reviews. It's better to buy a smaller capacity, reliable hard drive than a bigger capacity POS that will fail and take your data with it.
