Panasonic plasmas are good TVs. The only quibble is that a low-end model may have a slight greenish tint. I don't recall the model number, but the reason was that the set was able to display more in the green range than the color space typically calls for. Calibration would take care of that.
The other quibbles are power usage (less of an issue in my book than picture quality, since watching TV is a leisure activity and the time spent is worth more than the power per hour) and reflections from the glossy screen. LCD is better for static images, like business signs, and for computer usage. Many people game on plasmas, but they should be broken in if you plan to use games that have static images and you want to have the contrast up much.
Plasma offers fast response times, so the motion blur problem with LCD isn't a problem with plasma. Plasma offers great viewing angles and black level. Plasma also offers excellent uniformity, unlike many LCDs which have clouding issues and such.
Bought this TV from Frys. There is audible buzzing at low volume levels which annoys me. Not worth the hassle of a return, though. Otherwise, excellent picture quality. Don't buy if you can't control the window lighting in your room, though.
