Question, does this come with that WDBackup junk on the disk? And if so, can it be removed? I have a 2Tb WD external (with power supply) that has it and it shows up as a cd-rom, and I can't seem to get rid of it. I've removed the drive letter so I don't see it, but would rather be rid of it completely.

Go to disk management in windows and delete the entire partition. Then create a new blank partition.

Warning: do this w/o any data on your drive. but you knew that already right?

Anyone know how this might compare with the WD My Passport?

Question: Amazon has WD My Passport 2TB Portable External Hard Drive Storage USB 3.0 Black for 126.99 (136 SH).

Is that a good deal as well. It works out to almost the same thing as buying two 1TB. Please let me know, I'm stalling buying two of these or the one on amazon.

Well, yeah, I'd do it from a formatted drive

But the problem I have is that it shows up as a cd-rom, not a partition, so I can't delete it. I'm sure there is a way to, I just need to spend 5 minutes researching it. I was just wondering if this drive also showed up as a cd-rom for the b/u software too.

i know this is usb 3.0, but does anyone know the exact transfer speed?

some of the user reviews mention a proprietary cable. I don't think that's the case, USB 3 terminal are different., at least the USB bus powered portables. They have a double connector and I've heard you can use a USB 2 micro USB plug on one side in a pinch for slower USB 2 transfers. Good deal, got enough storage for now. And like others I'd rather have my data spread out a bit instead of one big 3TB drive.

^in reply to the above post, yes this is most likely SATA connection internally, can't imagine it not being so. However I've heard some interfaces are soldered in.
