If you can wait a bit, Amazon probably will lower the price of the 2TB WD portable again. Just a few days ago they lowered it to around $105 to price match the same item at Fry's for $99 (+tax). I got the Fry's one and in the process of backing up a bunch of kid's old recording.

Huh? I just said that I never said my HD was comparable to this one and then you replied with this which doesn't apply to that at all.

I basically said prices went up after the flooding but I'm glad they are coming down again. I already have a 2TB hard drive so I don't need another but I think this is a good deal.

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove here. Do you NOT think that prices were coming down before the flooding, then soared up after the flooding, and now they are coming down again?

BTW - I believe you could get a 1TB 3.0 for around $65 at Staples around then due to the $25 off $75 coupons.

I would also like a link to that deal. I got in on the mid December $59.99 deal on Newegg through Ebay. That was a tremendous deal on this drive, and the current deal is pretty close. I don't think you can do any better for a 1TB portable drive. USB 3.0, single USB port powered, and reliabe.

I use it with old Roku 2 box with a USB port. My DVDs and Blu-rays encoded to MP4 format play like a champ. This is also case in point for buying an upper end Roku box for USB capabilities. If you need a nice poratble HD, buy this thing.

He's talking about a firmware virtual CD which autoruns and is as annoying as can be. I do think there are some firmware updates that can be done to minimize the annoyance level.

However, the Element Drives are usually free of the forced software. I'm sure it has something preloaded which you can run optionally though. I usually end up deleting that right away.

Disabling Autoplay on you computer before attaching a new drive is always a good practice.

Because rebates suck. Especially from Tiger Direct, which is the only source of $50 price I see, and that's only with a rebate.

Even the Newegg rebates take 3+ months to show up. I sent the MX thermal paste on November 8th and just received it yesterday.

If the rebate goes to Tempe AZ you are going to wait a while for it. I think this was the longest I have ever waited for a rebate to arrive.

I know free is free but holding on to the money for 3 months is a little much even if it was $10.99.
