Sigh.. Got my SVE14 today. Guess what? It's got the standard res screen.. My specs show the 1600x900 option so I guess this one is going back. I would have gotten something cheaper if I was looking for the standard res screen! Something tells me this is gonna be a headache to return but at least I used my AMEX which is pretty good with this kinda stuff.

I got my SVE14A190X in today and the speakers are actually pretty decent. On par with the last gen E-series and my S-series. No bass whatsoever, but it does have volume. Definitely better than the A8 Gateway I picked up from Target which pretty much needs to be at 100% in a quiet room if you're weatching videos.

I'm running whatever drivers are stock because I didn't do a clean install.

I hate this sony vaio touchpad, its feels too cheap and plasticky like old dell laptops. Is there any kind stickers or skins that I can put on top of the touchpad and make it still work ?

Thanks and repped. Ordered another SVE14A290X.. $315 + tax. Just a basic Pentium B980.. I'm a little bit peeved at Sony for sending me the wrong laptop and then I have to pay shipping back to them (which I think I can get back if I complain loud enough) but unfortunately I really liked the SVE14, so here I am ordering another. The backlit keyboard is awesome, battery life is 5-6 hours, and it's thinner and lighter than the last gen E series.

anyone that got it with win 8 and has been able to install win 7? i haven't been able to get it to boot wih win7, same with my gateway desktop that came with win 8. ON my desktop, I can get it to boot to any DVD or usb with win 8, but with win 7 it acts as if it is not there...

I just ordered one of these (SVE14A190X) and it was listed as a "Premium Plus" model which implies a touch screen according to the model's product page. However, in the email confirmation is says something like NA_Touch_Screen. So how do I know if it has a touch screen or not?

My touchpad is terrible and I'm curious if anyone else is having the same experience. I posted this over on the Notebook Review owner's thread but it seems to be getting glossed over...

The thing will work fine most of the time but occasionally it will get stuck thinking there is an input and start acting very erratic. You can tell it thinks it has an input based on the animated tray icon and the pressure graph both show something is touching it when that is not the case. Additionally, when it freaks out you can't enable/disable it with the Fn keys.

Anyone have a similar experience? I'm about to try and figure out how to return it otherwise...

WARNING: Disable Windows Auto Update if you use Windows 7 or plan to. I said it before Microsoft went to 8 they will trash your windows 7 system. People that never experienced a problem with 7 have been forced to 8 because of continued crashes caused by Microsoft update to avoid this shut off the update. Concerned about viruses? Which is worst potential virus or certain bricking. Scroll to the bottom of link and you'll evidence hundreds of system failures as a result of Windows update after the OS changed to 8

Back to your question, heres the answer. Remove the POS Tracking Device Windows 8 OS system and UPGRADE (install) to Windows 7. Directions Follow:

Shutdown your notebook.
Press ASSIST and hold it.
Press the power button.
You will get the wizard, start the bios.
Now change the bios mod from UEFI to LEGACY.
After this you can install your normal windows 7

All that is necessary is to change the BIOS boot option from UEFI to LEGACY. After that boot with your Windows installation disk. At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:
DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT
and then proceed with installation and voila, a brand new Windows 7 system. You can also use a bootable USB, just make sure to enable BOOT FROM EXTERNAL DEVICES in the BIOS and set EXTERNAL DEVICE first in the boot sequence option. Regards
