My original Clip's clip is nearly broken, so I don't use it anymore. All the Clips are used for running and working out. The Fuze's are my favorites overall. My Fuze v1 power slide button is nearly worn out, so I got a spare that turned out to be a v2. The e series came first, but I like the Fuze form factor better. Nearly all are refurb. I think the e280 is my only "new" player. All are Rockboxed. Being able to select themes is a big plus. I also love crossfade playback. You can actually use the Fuze with an armband and workout with it. The Clip Zip battery life is not as good as the Clip or Clip+, but still long enough for me most of the time. I love that they all (except the original Clip) have microSD slots. I can put most of my music on a 16Gb card and just move it between players. To answer your specific questions: - There are no sonic differences that I can detect. All are very good. - Best UI is subjective. If I had to go stock (non-Rockbox) neither is particuarly bad or good, but I don't use stock much. With Rockbox, they all wind up having the same menu structure. I like the Fuze best because of the wheel control and the form factor fits my hands the best. You can choose themes from the Rockbox website and flip between them depending on what fits your mood. - In terms of best value. Only the Clip+ and Clip Zip are still being sold (AFAIK). Choose the Zip if you want color and album art, but the screen is pretty low res. Choose the + if you want max battery life. I also happen to own an iPod nano 3rd gen and 6th gen (the 7th gen is current). I really like the 1g and 2g as well, but they each got destroyed from moisture and sweat. The 3g form factor is like the Fuze, but my buttons are starting to get wiggy. I actually use the Nano 6g quite a bit. Though the touchscreen makes it a bit annoying for running, I like the form factor and the ease of making mixed playlists (music and podcasts) using iTunes. |

I've always leaned towards the clip+, so I think I'll pull the trigger on that instead.. although I like apple's touch ui's.. I do want a no nonsense, just-play-my-music type player.

Edit: Those are for the fuze, not the fuze+, although they look identical to me...my apologies! |

Curious if anyone has gotten rockbox working on their Fuze +...
I picked one up cheap before Xmas and it absolutely has the worst interface imaginable. I rarely even use it anymore. I tried using it in my car, then realized one of these days I'll end up getting in a car accident due to this thing ... simply choosing a song/audio book can be a nightmare. You end up scrolling all over, or taking forever to find the song/audio book you want. Or you accidentally brush against the wrong 'button' resulting in having to find the file all over again. |
