Starting march 15th there's going to be a change in the rewards program. Nrw changes include 5% rewards on all items and also you must purchase $30 in ink every 180 days to get recycling rewards.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Just did my own chat on the Ink recycling before the 3/15 Program change. Up til the 14th we are still under the old Program; get those inkls in before the 14th to get rewards without buying $30 worth of ink

Quote from chat:
Initial Question/Comment: Hello, I am trying to figure out this new recycling program. I just recycled my inks for this month and need to know if I am under the old program or do the rules of the new program (3/15/13 )already apply & I now have to buy $30 in ink before this latest reward is posted to my Premiere rewards account
12:19:37 PM : Rachel: Hi Premiere Customer. As the new program does not go into effect until March 15, anything done prior to that date will remain under the current program.

If the double/double deal is true, and you can indeed recycle up to 10 (or 20 for premier) cartridges, for those buying HP Ink, there is a $15 shell gift card if you buy $99 in ink:

http://www.iteminfo.com/ItemInfoF...-99buy.pdf

Just did a chat and got this from the rep,
Quote :
o $30 ink recycling minimum spend. Customers qualify for ink and toner recycling Rewards when they spend $30 or more on ink or toner within 180 days of recycling their cartridges. Once the minimum spend is met, which can be done over multiple purchases, they will be eligible to receive $2 back up to their monthly limit.
I'm attaching a scan of something that printed out with my ink recycling receipt this morning, spelling out the changes to the program. In a nutshell, it involves buying $30 in ink or toner every 180 days. Can still recycle 10 carts per month for a base or plus customer or 20 for a premier customer. Also posted this in post #430, in case it disappears from the wiki.

Another interesting note: Seems like you have to be a plus or premier member to be able to recycle ink! "up to 10 per calendar month per Plus customer or up to 20 per calendar month per Premier customer" - Incorrect. Both Base and Plus customers can recycle 10/month. See my entry above this and the 2nd attachment on this wiki (or post 430).

I think the real question is "whether or not the ink recycle from 03/01-03/14 required $30 toner/ink purchase in order to get the reward on April?"
Can anyone confirm with Staples Rewards CSR? and update the wiki?

So I'm pretty late jumping on the bandwagon here, but just a question. We have premier status here at the office, but it's something I rarely use. If I were to recycle ink on our premier status account, where do the rewards certs get sent? Physical mail or email?
Setting that controls that is under Account Profile in the rewards account.

I think the way to do is to recycle before Mar 15 to lock in the rewards for March. If the system doesn't handle the pre-3/15 recycle, I think a call to Staples Rewards will fix it.

agreed, or even better , get it in today, where it will work... I will be the least surprised person if the first two weeks of march don't work as the system has previously...... and we have another "double ink recycle CS rewards center meltdown"....

and for the glass half full people... does an abrupt 2 week notice period sound like:

a) $30 to get $20/$40
b) $30 to get $120/$240

I'm guess the previous program changes (ie from $3 to $2, etc).. had much longer notice lead times....

Noticed that next week's ad regarding the Double Rewards states that you have to purchase the same brand of ink as the cartridges that you are recycling.

No Double Double for me in the near future...

Spend $120/year to keep $480 in Rewards. 5% on the $1k spend (minimum) we are all doing anyway will offset $50 of that cost. $2,400 for break even. Shouldn't be an issue for most of us to hit $2,400/year. Could be worse I suppose.

ETA - actually, could be better. I'm sure most of us exceed $2,400/year, so it will mean more Rewards in the end.

The only way that makes sense is if one has a business and actually uses all that stuff, or they flip the stuff on ebay or craigslist.

I saw some chatter after this $2400 claim that talks about full garages or giveaways to relatives. If so, the per hour payback is much less than minimum wage.

The true MM deals (net of expenses, including gas to drive around to the stores) are not frequent enough to make a $2400 spend a reliable opportunity for most.

So far this year, the deals have been relatively thin vs last year. Throw in fewer good coupons and change of rules like this and Staples is much less attractive.

Their prices are atrocious given the advent of online shopping comparisons. Staples are in a losing game, if they don't get more competitive. OD and OM merger is just the first shoe to drop.

Where does it say so? This is double rewards, so in theory recycling is not even required. It does say same brand of ink, but I believe that means $50 of, say, all HP or all Epson etc.

Doesn't sound like either of these - more like c) $30 to get $120/$240. Are you reading the same text that we are?

Looks like we have double double ink promo next week (details available in staples ad below)

http://weeklyad.staples.com/Stapl...genumber=1

I wonder if they are doing this to make us buy $50 in ink before March 15 and another $30 after March 15... :-o

I hope buying during the double double promo alone will be enough for 6 months...

No it does not. You have to purchase $50 of the same brand of ink. And it has to be HP ink. Once again Staples does a crappy job of proofing their ad. And you will NOT get $4 per cart as is in the T&Cs as the ad is clearly a double not a double double promo.

Thought it was $30+ in ink in last 180 days, so $60 a year on ink for the potential gain of $240/$480, so looking at $180/$420 minus cost of cartridges. Still not bad.

Assumin you are premier.....Dont buy ink for 5 months but continue to recycle every month. On the 6th month recycle and buy $30 worth of ink, then the next months rewards come in for $240 + 5% then do it again for 4 months but on the 5th month buy ink and recycle and then get $200 next month and then you will have $440 to spend until the last day of the month when the $240 expires.
Should work nicely when the itouches come back.

I have $800 towards premiere right now and have spent a grand total of -$20OOP (I have made $20 so far and does not include money I've gotten selling the items). It also takes very minimal effort to list things on CL and Ebay. USPS picks up my prepaid packages. How do you know how much time I spend to say "If so, the per hour payback is much less than minimum wage."

Even if the payback is less than minimum wage, I have a 60hour a week job, but when I'm not working I'm not getting paid. It's not a opportunity cost where I either do Staples to make money or I real work my day job.

What is double double? What I usually do is buy ink off Amazon. I buy the no name brand and get it very cheap. I've never had issues.

I made money from Staples because I would get 2.00 back per cartridge and I don't think I paid that for the cartridge so basically I got free ink each year.

If I take 6 cartridges back to Staples on Mar. 3 do I get $4.00 back per cartridge? Is that what double double means? Will I get this back in rewards because I took them back prior to the new program start or am I out of luck?

After this new program comes into effect, I won't be taking my cartridges to Staples because I don't think I spend $30.00 in ink per year. I spend a lot less.

fixed my post.. I missed that it was 180 days vs the initial 90 days rumor

so that still puts me at

a) $30 to get $20/$40 (but with more time to do it)
b) $30 to get $120/$240

and now the "Best case" scenario just doubled from what was previously thought...

180 days is so that they don't alienate the at home , infrequent printer... , not so they can hand you $240 to $480 a year for spending $60
