No Credit History - Credit Cards

Apply for a card through your bank or credit union. If it gets denied, they may be able to push it through.

u dont need that much ona secured....no credit 2 years of payments only a 200 hundred secured i was at 680 try nfcu credit union they do secured wahtever you do make sure they report to all three companies get three different ones at least i would in fact here these people are super friendly and helpfull i believe the site is creditboards.com they helped me i hope i dont get in trouble for listins that site but everyone could benefit from it

I've tried to open a secure credit card for a minor and shot back. I was told that the applicant must be 18 yrs or old if they need a personal credit card, must be 17 yrs or old to be an authorized user on a credit card.
I simply want to establish some lengthy credit history.
Is there any legal way to start credit profile for a minor and establish good credit history?

This is what I did when I first came here ... I had zero credit, 3 years ago.

• I applied for a secured credit card with a $5k credit line from BoA.
• Used it for a year, making sure that I paid off the card IN FULL each month.
• I also made sure that I was paying off 90% of total, about 5-6 days before my statement was generated. This helped me with my utilization rate. The credit card always reported a very small balance, and it helped me keep my utilization rate less than 10%.
• After a year, I applied for an unsecured card from BoA and was approved.
• 6 months after that, I tried for the Chase Freedom card (they had a $300 cashback offer then...but the card is still an awesome card even now, because of the revolving 5% categories)
• Once I got the Freedom, I did an AOR a year later (6 cards) and was approved for each.
• Since then I have been getting 5-6 cards every 6 months (I'm into miles etc...PM me for more) and I am always approved for every card.

This is what I'd recommend doing. Getting that secured card. If you want, get a $10k limit...that way, your utilization rate will always be REALLY low.

The only way I can think of is to make them an Authorized User. This was your GOOD credit history will have an effect on theirs and they'll be able to slowly build theirs.
Now...there's considerable risk involved- YOU take COMPLETE responsibility of that card...so if that minor charges something to their card, you have legal responsibility to pay off the bill.
This is the only thing you need to consider. Apart from that AU is the way to go.

That all sounds like a lot of work.

Get a capital one card, because they will approve you, they are geared towards students and people with no credit history.

There is no secret, just use it and pay it in full each month. That's it. It will take time to build a credit history. Utilization doesn't matter, just don't get up to your limit. After 1 or 2 years, apply for another card at another bank whether you are going to use it or not. That will get your utilization down, when you apply for an extra credit card or 2 (make sure they are no fee).

When you have good credit later, apply for a rewards card and get money back for your regular shopping.

OP, I'd recommend getting a secured card with BoA... At the end it's your call.

Secured card is the only way. In the end I just saved up cash and bought a foreclosed house with that. Credit is a bunch of BS. I have cash saved up that I use as most people would use a credit card. You just have to live far below your means for 5 or so years to start with. In the end it is worth it.

i find it hard to believe if you are picking up 5-6 cards every 6 months and have a 780 score. when you apply for a card, they do a hard hit on your credit history and it knocks you down 3 points.

Scores bounce back within a few months.
I was 774 a month ago. Then I applied for 8 cards and was approved for all. Now my score is 746. Still excellent. Once you cross 720 or so, you'll have no problems with your score. Ofcourse getting approved for cards means a lot of things : No inquiries in 4-6 months. Good credit score+history. Ability to pay back debt.

P.S- Yeah, I fibbed a little. I'm not at 780 at this exact moment. But I don't think it'll be hard for me to get back there again.

I am curious I recently fubared my credit pretty bad however I still have a chase freedom card that I have been in good standing with for years. Now, I feel I am pretty much done with credit cards but is there anything I can do to rebuild my credit with out spending a ton of money on those cards? From the way I read tip one. It says that it just shows balanced paid each month. So I could spend 100 bucks a month on my chase freedom and that would rebuild my credit the same as if I was putting 800 on there?

is that fico or 3rd party?

if it isn't fico and just a karma score, it doesn;t mean anything.
