how does this compare to Synology DS413j?

TS-412 got 2x LAN port, hot swappble hard drive design, better build quality by metal housing. Some of features I like more is recenlty it support so called happy get which can point the Youtube video to NAS, and let NAS pull the video to the hard disk directly. I also like the BT download from QNAP more.

Yeah I would say QNAP has a more robust offering. You can take a look a there website www.qnap.com and see all the features it offers. I also prefer QNAP web GUI more since if I wanted to use desktop like GUI I would just use a computer. QNAP web GUI is cleaner and easier to use since its listed in icon format and all features is listed to the side.. There mobile apps are great too!
