I hadn't heard of the "problematic version 1" of this before. I'll have to read the DD-WRT forums for more information. These make excellent 5GHz access points (APs) around a larger home.

The problem with Version 1 was both from hardware issues from overheating and firmware issues. Hence the MASSIVE number of V1 that have been refurbished over the last year plus in deals like this & the 1 day sale type sites.
In version 2 they completely reworked the hardware & for me the firmware has been great.

Yes, but that's not what I'm asking. Hey's saying if it is V1 DD-WRT is FULLY supported. What I'm asking is if anyone has gotten one from them lately. The most recent feedback post/review on Newegg would indicate that they appear to still be sending the original V1s but Newegg no longer specifies VERSION 1 on their site, but they do have two other versions (although many less issues or problems so more likely that refurbs will still be V1).
Also at least 1 year ago there was work being done on a beta for DDWRT version 2. http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/view...c&start=45 looks like last entry on the page believes they have it working. Main page of DD-WRT still shows they are looking for a donor router.
I thought it would have been done by now but perhaps it couldn't be completed or the people lost interest. To me it's been a great stock router so I haven't had the need / desire to modify it. Perhaps with a refurbished model as a bridge??

Think it's luck of the draw, I bet if you get a V1 someone else would gladly swap with you.
Believe some of the issues with the V1 had to do with poorly paired power supply adapters. But I'm guessing there'll be a mix since Netgear started offering lifetime wtys, there will be plenty of RMAs of both over time.

it seems recently that their developers don't respond to offers to donate so that may have caused some backlash, I suspect part of it is to squeeze some cash out of the non-paying base, also I guess there is work on the newer Cisco routers.

If it is v1 then you can flash tomato directly from stock instead of going dd-wrt first. Works great. Great range
